A notice of the date will be posted. The family related that the Sergeant Major did not wish to have flowers. Instead, he requested that all who choose to donate, should send a contribution to the AmGrunt Memorial Wall fund. That addresses: Marine Corps University Foundation, P. O. Box 122, Quantico, Virginia 22134. Please make the check or money order payable to the AmGrunt Memorial Wall Fund, and note for SgtMaj R.A. Creedon.

Lt.Col USMC (Ret)

Having known this Marine since he was corporal and served with him or was close by him, I have no problem relating to anyone what this Marine meant to me or for his continuous and professional contributions to the Marine Corps.

Many will remember his steadfast performance in combat, particularly during the time he was at the Cau Viet, and with the AmGrunts of the 1st Amtrac Battalion. I never knew any Marine that was more capable of living a leadership role that benefited all around him. Anyone who served with him became a more competent Marine because of him.

Near the end of his career he was assigned to 8th and I. His rank was Master Gunnery Sergeant, soon after his arrival he was frocked to Sergeant Major and participated in the Friday night parade and those held at the Iwo Jima Monument. It was such a wise decision for the Marine Corps to do this. He was the epitome of a what a Sergeant Major should look and act like on the occasion of these unique ceremonies that reflected the spirit and ceremonial capability of the Corps.

No one will ever forget the fiery red hair, the uniqueness of a never ending smile and the ramrod posture that indeed led many to think he was the "picture post card" Marine.

While at Marine Barracks, he was assigned to work on Marine Corps Institute correspondence courses and he rewrote all of those relevant to the Amphibious Vehicle Military Occupational Specialty. I know this because from time to time he called me at Quantico and asked if I could review a particular course with him. It was such a pleasure to work with him and to further understand how he was leaving such an important mark and individual legacy to the Marine Corps.

I hope that all Marines, including those who never met him, will make a contribution to the AMGRUNT MEMORIAL WALL FUND at The Marine Corps University. It would be such an appropriate donation to one who so freely gave himself to the Marine Corps.
