Toby Lucker AIS class of 1974 Toby Lucker, AIS class of 1974, died of cancer April 5th, 2008. His sister Helma, AIS class of 1975, sends this heartfelt letter. May 29, 2008 Thanks so much for writing. I have been meaning to send something to the websites of the schools we attended thru high school so this makes my job easier...I"ve discovered that one of the hardest things about Toby's death (he's my only sibling...) is losing my childhood "witness", one of the only people I don't have to explain my childhood and my Global Nomad/ Third Culture Kid-ness, too... Toby was at AIS for his senior year only. Before then we lived in Jakarta for 6 years and in Bangkok from birth. Toby died April 5th (the same day our mother passed in '93 incidentallly...) after a 7 year battle with cancer. At the time he was diagnosed he had just made Captain with Delta Airlines, the attainment of a childhood dream that he carried all his life (As an 8 year old in Bangkok, unbeknownst to my parents, he would wake up before dawn and ride his bike a very long way to the airport to watch the international flights come in...) Although the last seven years were difficult, he fell in love and married the love of his life, Diane, in '06, so although retired from flying, those years were full of love, romance, music, travel and adventure... He died with both Diane and his son, Peter by his side. Peter (who is 22) sets off on a 3 month Euro adventure next week. I know Peter would love to hear from anyone who knew his Dad as a teen-ager... plucker782@gmail.com Helma Lucker, AIS class of '75 helmala@whidbey.com
