Subject: The final deployment

8 July 2007

Dear Ones,

I am so sorry to be sending this news.

At 10:33 this morning Mark's lungs gave up the fight and he drifted peacefully into sleep. He was surrounded by loved ones and though it all seems surreal right now, we too are surrounded by loving Christian friends and family.

I truly believe that all your prayers mattered. My prayer was that if he were to survive this battle only to later lose the bigger war to cancer in a long drawn out manner as so many close to us have suffered, he would be taken swiftly and in comfort. It happened much too soon according to our calendar, but I know God had the big picture and granted him a merciful passing.

For my own sanity, I am considering this another Navy deployment where we all pull together during separation only this time he will be waiting for me at the pier.

The memorial service will be held at Beach United Methodist Church at 325 7th Ave North, Jacksonville Beach next Saturday, July 14th, at 11:00am with reception to follow.

For those traveling from out of town to celebrate his life with us, we have 3 good hotels to suggest in order of nearness:
Courtyard Marriott
4600 San Pablo Road, Jacksonville
223-1700

The Wingate at Hodges and Butler Blvd, Jacksonville
4791 Windsor Commons Ct
J.T. Butler Blvd & Hodges Blvd
Jacksonville, FL 32224 US
Phone: 904-421-7000

Hampton Inn Southbeach Parkway
1220 Marsh Landing Parkway, Jacksonville Beach, FL
(904) 280-9101

There is also a Bereavement package program afforded by the Funeral Home. 1-800-224-4177 that when you reference #2312 will make air, hotel and car reservations at discounted rates. I have heard, however, that going through the airlines directly and requesting a bereavement rate may actually provide lower fares.

Bryce, Cameron, and I thank you with all our hearts for the tremendous emotional and spiritual support you all have provided.
