Rob Creedon AIS class of 1975 RobertCreedon@comcast.net July 15, 2008
Hello Class of 1975, Wow, what a great surprise to hear from Seiichi Sugiyama -- and what a coincidence. I just finished taking a class on Chinese Grand Strategy. In my class of eleven were three students from Canada, one from Nigeria and one from Japan! I sat next to Noboru throughout the semester and we had a chance to get to know one another -- he is a fine gentleman. He is an army officer, currently stationed at the Japanese Embassy in Washington. Upon meeting him, I immediately thought of Seiichi and wondered where life had taken him after our days in India -- and then just a matter of weeks later his email was forwarded to me! Thanks for remembering me! Like me, your days in India seem to hold a special place in your heart. There is no doubt that the experience of living there and going to school with students from so many other nations had a profound effect on me. It was a learning experience I will never forget. In fact, a couple of years ago there was an AIS/AES Reunion here in Washington. I think there were about 300 people in attendance and we had a great time! They even served a dinner of Indian food! There were classes in attendance from the early 1960's through the late 1990's. Not surprisingly, we did not know many people but the common experience of living in India was a bond we all shared. Both Malcolm and Sanjay were there. On Sunday morning we even played the Indian game of tag -- Kabuddy -- on the Mall in front of the capitol! Most of the people who saw us thought we were a bit crazy :-) As for me -- I retired from the Marine Corps several years ago and now work as a contractor just outside of Washington, DC. While still in the Marine Corps I was stationed in Okinawa from 1988-89 -- and also spent three months deployed to South Korea. Both were wonderful experiences both personally and professionally. While in Okinawa I had the opportunity to visit China for about ten days. I so wanted to take a trip back to India but a hectic deployment schedule precluded that. I still hope to return there someday. For fun, I fly gliders and run triathlons. My younger sister, Eryn, lives in Springfield, Oregon with her husband and two kids and my younger brother, John, lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife. Please let me know what you have been doing since our days in India. Your friend, Rob Creedon |
