Richard Wilson with wife Peggy and dog Emily, at home in Beaufort, SC.

I attended AES Delhi from 81-85. After leaving AES I went to College in Richmond, Virginia. I worked my way through school as a prep cook both in Richmond and in Palm Beach, Florida where my mother and grandmother were living. I quickly fell in love with cooking and enrolled myself in culinary school.

I have cooked ever since. Owning five restaurants. After many years I developed a knack for fixing "broken" restaurants so I started a consulting company. This brought me to South Carolina and my bride Peggy. It was a six month rehab on an old plantation house which we turned into an Inn. Peggy was working with the developer of the property and as they say the rest is history. 10 years later we are still in love, and have devoted ourselves to family, our business' and our life with our Blue Australian Sheppard "Emily" here in Beaufort South Carolina on the coastal waters just south of Charleston. We travel to Europe, Central America and the Pacific as often as possible. We own Bateaux, a beautiful restaurant set on the water in the restored Customs House circa 1838 in the little village of Port Royal, SC. www.bateauxrestaurant.net for more info.

Peggy has two grown boys, David and Jimmy and they each have children. David lives in Beaufort with his wife and their two children so we spend Sundays with them eating and laughing. Peggy has a brother Michael and sister Janet who also live in Beaufort and spend Sundays at our side.

My sister Nicole, "Niki" who attended AES from '82-'85 is married now and living in Burlington, North Carolina, with her husband of 9 years and their son, my only nephew Caden. My father, Burgess Wilson who coached our AES Softball team for many years, has retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico with my stepmother Pat.

That is the story … hope to catch up with some of you soon. Cheers-

Richard L. Wilson, Owner, Bateaux
