Yearbook Mailbag

Updated October 18, 2008

The response to the PDF editions of AIS and AES yearbooks has been astonishing. Hundreds of downloads have of the PDF files have been made in the days since they went online, and many of you have written of the memories these books have generated. Many thanks for your kind responses, which are copied below.

These digitalised yearbooks are a fabulous idea. It's wonderful to reconnect with all those memories over the years. Also seeing the evolution of history in successive yearbooks makes for a fascinating archive. Thank you! Linda Finlay, Class of 1974

It is fun to look back and possibly more delightful than looking forward this week. Karma! What a concept. Ronald Loftfield, Class of 1973

Good work, thanks so much for taking the time to do this - how cool! Mark Friedbauer, Class of 1986

Hey, have really enjoyed browsing the old year books. I don't know who came up with the idea but it is really great. Cindy Jones Ondrak, Class of 1969

Who are those people...they are just kids!! What memories! Robert Creedon, Class of 1975

From France ... Super Excellent idea!! Thanks for your commitment. Be sure I'll spread the word! Francois Galas, Class of 1984

My brother forwarded your yearbook e-mail to me. My name is Maria Theresa Sanchez and my brother is Tony (Antonio) Sanchez.

We both attended AES from 1978 - 1980. It was my favourite international school ! Unfortunately our stay there was too short before we moved to Geneva, Switzerland. I was in 7th and 8th grade (middle school) while I was in AES (prior to that we were at ISI - International School of Islamabad, Pakistan).

My brother and I have the 1980 yearbook - I'll try and convince my brother to have it scanned. I am currently in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but was living in Geneva, Switzerland from 1980 until this year. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards, Maria Theresa Sanchez Class of 1984

You guys are Awesome! I don't have our books and this is a great idea!! Asunta Stabile McCathern Class of 1983

Cool! Carole Stabile Thorndyke Class of 1981

AIS-AES were golden days in teaching and learning. If I could re-live any time of my life, it would be AES years, Tom Ault, Faculty

Wow, that is a wonderful deed by all concerned! For those of us who lost all our AIS yearbooks and were reduced to breaking through AIS security on trips to Delhi to xerox a few selected pages from yearbooks at the library, this is a treasure. Thank you! Ajoy Vachher Class of 1976

What a great thing to go thru tonight and see names of people I have not seen since 1970. Wow.

Is there a directory of old classmates, or alumni of AIS? I think my brother Pat went to an AIS reunion this past year on the east cost. After India, we moved to the US for 6 months, then to Mexico City for 11 years. I am somewhat involved in the AHS from Mexico City, so this was a great surprise to get this email.

My siblings who went to AIS between 1967 and 1970

Pat McDonald, Junior in 1970
Sarah McDonald, Freshman in 1970
Tom McDonald, 7th Grade in 1970 (me)
David McDonald, 2nd Grade in 1970.

I live in Seattle WA, having settle here after graduation from College in Texas and moving to CT, MA, NH, CA, and finally WA - no more (maybe). Thanks again.
Tom McDonald Class of 1975

Great project! Digitized photographs and memories...thanks to all who contributed; I particularly remember the great time we all had when we put the '74 yearbook together. I'll see if i can find any yearbooks that have not yet been scanned. Take care, y'all! Sunil Mahajan, Class of 1974

What a GREAT Idea! Raynah Salenius D'Onofrio, Class of 1973

Bravo !!! And thanks so much for sending the yearbooks. Please let me know if Yearbook 1968-1969 is ready. All the best and my warm personal regards to all of you. Ronnie Soemiatno - currrently living in Singapore. Class of 1972

Had a wonderful time looking at the on-line 1975 yearbook last night. Was so much fun to see what my younger AIS friends and neighbors from Annand/Shanti Niketan looked like as they were growing up, and also to see many of the same teachers. Can't wait to see the other yearbooks when they get posted and I know hundreds (thousands????...what are our numbers now?) of other alums will also appreciate your efforts, and efforts of the Gargs, the scanners and everyone involved in getting them on-line. Many thanks. Suzanne Bakey Fricke, Class of 1972

Thank you, everyone, for taking me down memory lane! I started 1st grade at AIS and completed my 12th there - class of '71. My sister Kay was in the class of '68 and she was at AIS from 2nd - 12th grade. She lives in San Jose, CA, and is doing great working in the IT industry and savoring her heritage (India). It would take us an hour to drive to AIS since we lived in Old Delhi. We were the only kids living in Old Delhi, so that was unique in itself. I remember President Eisenhower and Jackie Kennedy coming to the old school on Janpath, and remember Mrs. Garg and oh, so many other wonderful teachers - Mrs. Rahman and Mrs. Dyes. Tina Perelli and her dad were also great student and principal additions. I hope Mrs. Garg's kids are on this email - she was an incredible person. Since my mom was Indian an my dad American, she always made me feel at home while at AIS. She is remembered as a treasure.

I went back home to India in October '07 and took ten friends. One was Linda Furst, who is probably on this list. It was a great trip, which then led to me going back in April '08 to volunteer in a Delhi hospital for a week. Life changed on that trip.

If you ever decide you want to have an AIS reunion mid-country, think of Dallas. Carol York, '71, also resides here.

Namaste and hope to see you at the next reunion!

Colleen Townsley Brinkmann Class of 1971

The yearbooks on the webpage are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. KC Gray Siebert Class of 1970 and Neal Siebert

Great stuff, everyone. Thanks so much for putting this together. Great memories of the senior year in '70. I look forward to seeing more and really appreciate all the effort that it took to do it. Sorry about the hair in the senior photo but I did look good on the softball field and still play twice a week at our ripe old age of 56. Must be the red wine!!

I was so close to Reno and was sorry that I had to miss the get together. I don't know if anything is planned until D.C. in 2010 for the 40th but keep me posted and stay in touch. Fond regards, Chris (Christopher A. Collins) Class of 1970

Your efforts to preserve the past are commendable. I have a copy of the 1963 Yearbook (the year I started at AIS). I'll see if I can scan it for you.

Meanwhile, I believe you know about the Digital Yearbook I made for the years 1968-1970 (2 years) from the original negatives (rather than scanning the yearbooks). It contains far more photos than the originals and were sold thru the Alumni Association last year.

Taka Yamanouchi Class of 1970

Thank you so much! This will be a wonderful treasure. I appreciate your efforts. Mary Lee McIntyre, Faculty, AIS, 1969-1971

Wow… it was really something to see my Dad as the elementary school principal in the 1965-66 elementary school yearbook…. I will forward it to my mom (who was the editor, Marie Gleason) and Tommy and Jess, my brother & sister. Julie Gleason Comstock Class of 1966
