SAD NEWS - BARBARA FRICKE (CLASS OF 1974)
posted 16 June 2017
We are sad to announce the loss of our classmate and friend, Barbara Fricke (AIS Class of 1974), who passed away at the end of April. Barbara attended
AIS from 1966-1972. She is survived by her parents, Patty and Dick Fricke; brothers Bob (AIS '69) and Dick (AIS '72); Bob's wife Suzanne Bakey Fricke (AIS '72); and Dick's wife Susan Fricke, their children and grandchildren.
Many of us at AIS remember Barbara as an All-Star Girls' Kabaddi Champion from Miss Bali's PE classes. (Read more about the game of kabaddi.) If you were in her PE class or playing kabaddi after school, it was always wise to be on Barbara's team or to be prepared for a big battle! Barbara's love of unusual sports extended later into her life when she became an avid fisherwoman, recognized by many of the regular bass fisherman on the Potomac by her bright pink hat. She was also an accomplished Indian chef and traveled with a bag of Indian spices so they were always handy to cook Indian dishes for her family and friends.
Barbara was born in April 1956 in Akron, Ohio. From Akron, the family moved to Wolverhampton, England, then India, where her father was the plant manager for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. After leaving India, Barbara lived with her parents in Manila (Philippines) for several years, then attended and graduated from Ohio University. She worked as a legal assistant for several Virginia and Washington DC law firms before retiring.
The AIS/AES alumni community extends our condolences Barbara's family.
