Mary Opalenik taught English IB and was Department Head at AES from 1984 through 1988. She retired from overseas' teaching in 2006 and now lives in La Grande, Oregon where she operates a travellers' guest house. Most of the space in her home is taken up by looms.
In India she studied the Indian temple dance called Bharatnatyam; in Oregon, she is weaving and spinning. She's happy to live near her son Joe and to spend time with her granddaughter Keyara who is 2 1/2 years old. She hikes in the mountains, practices target shooting with her Smith and Wesson revolver and writes fiction.
