"What a pleasure to visit the American Embassy School this past October!

From 1956 to 1959, I attended grades six, seven, and eight in the original school, located in the Taj Barracks on Janpath. This photo of cheerleaders practicing gives a sense of the shabby old buildings and patch of gravel that served as playground.

I expected the new school to be pretty, but I was unprepared for how gorgeous it is! The graceful landscaping, the dramatic buildings using local stone in different colors, the colorfully furnished interiors-the whole campus is a thing of beauty. It also feels like a magnificent place to learn and teach. In the auditorium, I listened in briefly on a drama class-it was electric. Everywhere, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.

My heartfelt thanks to Director Paul Chmelik for his gracious welcome and to Executive Assistant Latha Srinavasan for the comprehensive tour. You gave me a treat I will long remember." -Betsy Woodman, Class of 1963
